Rick Slocum joined Harvard Management Company (HMC) as managing director and chief investment officer in March 2017. Alongside the CEO, they have restructured the endowment’s investment operations to form a mostly outsourced investment model. They also repositioned the portfolio by increasing allocation to both hedge funds and venture capital, while working with the University to identify the endowment’s optimal risk level.
Previously, Mr. Slocum served as chief investment officer of The Johnson Company, a large single-family office based in New York City. Prior to that, Mr. Slocum was responsible for private equity and portfolio management at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Mr. Slocum has also worked as a senior director at the Office of Investments at the University of Pennsylvania, as a private placement specialist at two different banks in New York City and began his career as a credit analyst at Chemical Bank.
Mr. Slocum holds a BS and MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He currently serves on the Rockefeller Foundation’s Investment Committee.
Alyssa Rieder is an experienced board member and CIO with decades of finance and investment experience as an institutional allocator and investor. She is an expert in ESG/impact investing and experienced in scaling growth and merger integration.
Alyssa has a strong background in overseeing and managing CommonSpirit Health’s $50 billion investment program comprised of multiple pools of capital including corporate, retirement, foundation, and self-insurance assets. The program has $30 billion invested with over 150 investment managers across asset classes, alongside oversight of the manager line up of $20 billion in DC assets. Alyssa manages a staff-driven investment team, actively engaged in manager selection and monitoring, portfolio rebalancing, asset allocation, and risk management, with particular focus on sustainable and impact investing. Jennifer Deger, Director of Finance & Global Controller, leads the Global Financial & Accounting Services team which reports to the CFO as part of the Finance & Strategy Group of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Her team is responsible for grant and vendor disbursements, financial reporting, payroll, tax compliance, cash flow planning, employee expense administration and internal controls. Jennifer’s team manages the annual financial statement audits, tax returns, and general ledger accounting for the Foundation and the Trust as well as for the foundation’s international offices.
Prior to joining the foundation in 2006, Jennifer worked in various roles including public accounting where she specialized in tax exempt organizations and in local government managing the operations of the treasury and tax functions.
Jennifer received her MBA from Seattle University and her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Gonzaga University. She is also a CPA. Jennifer volunteers with local charities. [mutual fund board]
Bola Olusanya joined The Nature Conservancy in March 2020 as the Chief Investment Officer. He provides leadership, vision and oversight to the management and strategic growth of the Conservancy’s $3B long-term investment assets. Bola has over 20 years of experience in investment management as an executive and a thought leader. Prior to joining TNC, he was a Managing Director at Key Private Bank where he led asset allocation, portfolio strategy and manager research for the bank’s $40B investment management business.
Previously, Bola was a Managing Director at Strategic Investment Group, a $37B Outsourced-CIO firm, where he co-managed the public equity portfolio as well as the firm’s emerging manager program. Before that, he was a Managing Director at Vanderbilt University’s investment office where he oversaw asset allocation, risk management and manager selection for the university’s $6B endowment. Earlier in his career, Bola worked at the $8B Emory University’s investment office and held senior positions within the Nigerian banking sector.
Bola received his MBA in Finance from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University and holds an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. He obtained his B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, where he graduated with First Class Honors.
Deborah Boedicker is a business strategy and brand consultant to OCIO firms, and active in philanthropy focused on rare disease, mentoring, and entrepreneurship. Formerly, she was managing director and board member at Strategic Investment Group. Prior to that she was managing director at UBS Global Asset Management (formerly Brinson Partners) and director/portfolio manager at Analytic/TSA Global Asset Management.
Ms. Boedicker serves as a board member of Mackenzie’s Mission and operating committee member of the Amyloidosis Speakers Bureau. Previously, she has served as benefit plan committee member of the American Red Cross, board chair of Mentorprize, and advisory board member of Northeastern University IDEA Venture Accelerator.
